The Cleveland FES Center congratulates principal investigators A. Bolu Ajiboye, PhD, and Emily Graczyk, PhD, along with the entire ReHAB study project team as the recipients of a significant donation supporting their research efforts. The ReHAB project, which stands for Reconnecting the Hand and Arm to the Brain, is working to advance a platform allowing reanimation of paralyzed limbs under direct control of the brain. The work has received a $4.5 million commitment from an anonymous donor.
The gift was inspired by a news segment on the popular news program 60 Minutes in spring of 2023. The series covered the work of Ajiboye and others who are using neuroprosthetics and functional electrical stimulation to help restore movement and feeling for people with neurological impairments.
The gift will make it possible for the ReHABteam to expand their research capabilities, ideally making the systems more accessible for people with spinal cord injury and/or paralysis.
