Hi Everyone, I’m a professor of biomedical engineering, the founder of the Institute for Functional Restoration, and a Speaker at this year’s World Science Festival. My research efforts focus on functional restoration of the paralyzed upper extremities of individuals with spinal cord injuries. My collaborators and I have developed a number of implantable neural prostheses which use electrical stimulation to control patients’ muscles.
These implants have enabled individuals with central nervous system disability to regain the ability to perform basic activities of daily living. My program at this year’s World Science Festival (May 28 – June 1) in New York City, Better, Stronger, Faster: The Future of the Bionic Body, is a discussion about the cutting edge of implanted technologies.
It will also be livestreamed at worldsciencefestival.com
