RESEARCH

The Rewire Lab is part of the MetroHealth Center for Rehabilitation Research and the
Case Western Reserve University Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation,
and Biomedical Engineering. The lab’s mission is to improve the wellbeing of those
affected by neurological injury via technology, including robotics, biomechanics,
and neurophysiology.

Thomas’s research interests include sensorimotor rehabilitation through dual-tasking
and movement sonification, with a focus on improving functional outcomes following
neurological injury.

His current work investigates a novel rehabilitation paradigm involving a real-life
café environment. The study recruits individuals with moderate-to-severe traumatic
brain injury to serve customers food items, with the goal of improving movement,
cognition, speech, and integrated task performance.
