Dr. Andrei Maiseyeu is an Associate Professor with tenure at Case Western Reserve University, specializing in cardiovascular nanobiomedicine.
With formal training in organic chemistry and multi-step synthesis, Dr. Maiseyeu’s research bridges chemistry, nanotechnology, and translational medicine. His work focuses on developing innovative tools, probes, and therapeutics targeting metabolism in cardiovascular disease, with a strong emphasis on precise drug delivery and the discovery of new therapeutic targets.
Dr. Maiseyeu is also dedicated to mentoring the next generation of scientists, having trained numerous undergraduates, postdocs, and resident fellows who now contribute to both academia and industry.
RESEARCH PROGRAMS
Dr. Maiseyeu’s laboratory is recognized for its multidisciplinary research in:
- Cardiovascular Nanobiomedicine – Developing nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery and studying the health effects of environmental nanoparticles.
- Cholesterol Metabolism – Pioneering new investigative tools and biosensors for real-time monitoring of cholesterol flux in biological systems.
- Atherosclerosis – Uncovering novel roles of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and related pathways in vascular inflammation and plaque regression.
- Translational Therapeutics – Bridging basic scientific discoveries to clinical applications, with a focus on targeting metabolism and inflammation in cardiovascular disease
ient care.
MAJOR PROJECTS & FUNDING
Dr. Maiseyeu’s research has been funded by prestigious organizations, including the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the American Heart Association. Major projects include:
- Targeted Nanoparticle Delivery – Developing activatable nanoparticles for selective targeting of neutrophils and macrophages in thrombosis and atherosclerosis.
- Cholesterol Efflux Modulation – Creating nanoprobes and biosensors for studying and enhancing cholesterol efflux in cardiovascular disease.
- GLP-1 in Atherosclerosis – Investigating the therapeutic potential and mechanisms of GLP-1 receptor agonists in vascular inflammation and plaque stabilization.
