Establishing an Open Source Network

Establishing an Open Source Modular Implant Network

Current studies are exploring the use of light to manage pain, and how to characterize a person’s sense of pain using brain rhythms and behavioral models.

The goal of the Cleveland Open Source Modular Implant Innovators Community (COSMIIC) is to establish an implanted electrical stimulation system that can be used for treatment of diseases, particularly in the peripheral nerves.

Establishing an open source modular implant network study

The research team is poised to successfully achieve the goals of the HORNET program because the proposed concept is based on their established platform ecosystem, the Networked Neuroprosthesis (NNP). This provides a solid technological platform with known regulatory status for the COSMIIC HORNET project. Critically, all technology described in this proposal was invented by the investigative team and therefore the team is able to fully embrace the open source ideology for the end-to-end technology.

All of the plans and instructions necessary to create this implanted system will be made available freely to the research community so that everyone can benefit. The research team hopes that this will quickly advance the treatment of many diseases.
