Kevin Kilgore’s passion for pioneering solutions for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) goes beyond the laboratory. As one of the funded proposals in MetroHealth’s 2015 “Think Tank”, an employee competition of innovative ideas that would improve both MetroHealth and the surrounding community, the Zubizarreta House was envisioned and created as residential center for SCI patients undergoing treatment at the FES Center laboratories at MetroHealth Old Brooklyn Campus.
The Zubizarreta House is a 7,000 sq ft home with 5 patient suites and 2 innkeeper apartments. Out of town patients and their families have access to housing with on-site support for needs specific to the SCI community. The Zubizarreta was designed and constructed with the generous support and donation of Miguel Zubizarreta.
