Research Statement

My research interests are focused on increasing functional recovery following neurological injury and disease, such as spinal cord injury and stroke, using both implantable and non-invasive electrophysiological methods. My active research goals include the investigation of:

  • Recovery of function following spinal cord injury through application of transcutaneous spinal direct-current stimulation and activity-triggered transcranial magnetic stimulation.
  • Non-invasive peripheral nerve block using transcutaneous direct current stimulation, with the goal of treating acute and chronic pain as well as spasticity.
  • Nerve conduction block using kilohertz-frequency alternating current stimulation.
  • Sensory feedback in neuroprosthetic systems.
